Artist Statement

Wildan Iltizam Bilhaq is a self-taught artist that currently based in Yogyakarta. Since 2016, Wildan has been developing his artwork on painting and performance art. His painting inspiration mostly came from the world of the dream. Combining harsh and abstract stroke with surrealism, he aim to probe on the concept of fragmentation of memory, between the contemporary state and the ancient one.

His work in performance art are strongly constructed by the ideas of participation as a way of criticize and deconstruct the tension and complexity of our individual and our contemporary society which are shifting on to a new reality, the virtual reality.
In 2021 with his associates, he initiated a performance study collective; Proyek Edisi. He is also part of #NonBlokMovement; an artist collective based on Fantom Blockchain, aim to perform experimentation and activism in the thriving environment.

Mencari Kabar is part of Jalar Rimpang, Rimpang Nusantara 2022 project initiates by Cemeti Institute. Proyek Edisi are working to get a closer look into the idea of "deconstructing the embodied archives". 1998 Asian Monetary Crisis were one of leading factors that led the downfall of Soeharto Regime. As a generation born in early 1990's, we are lacking of the explicit experience of the phenomena. Our understanding are being shaped by the layers of layers of information that are very possible to be distorted, romanticized, antagonized, etc. To see that as fact has led us a question of identity; what kind of generation the phenomena of 98 shape? Thus the performance are to embrace the primary information source at that time; newspaper archives.
